Record Store Day is just aroud the corner on Saturday 22 April. With hundreds of live music events and lots of special edition vinyl releases planned for the big day, so there’s bound to be something happening near you.
Special vinyl releases are made exclusively for the day and many shops and cities host artist performances and events to mark the occasion. The first Record Store Day was officially kicked off by Metallica in San Francisco in 2008 and is now held every third Saturday in April. Thousands more shops celebrate the day around the globe in what’s become one of the biggest annual events on the music calendar.
Record sales have seen a huge increase in the last few years here in the UK, going from 205,000 copies in 2007 to a whopping 2 million in 2015 and with over 500 special editions vinyl released last year, hopes are high on making this the biggest Record Store Day ever.
