With UA5, Shanling are pushing their UA line into a bit different category. While UA1 and UA2 worked nicely as simple USB Audio dongles, UA5 is quite a bit closer to your bigger portable DAC/Amp combo. Shanling UA5 provides a better sound quality for your smartphone and a better user experience when connected to your computer.
Shanling UA5 have a volume wheel for independent volume control, a small screen for easy access to multiple settings directly on the device, full-size 4.4mm balanced connector, a fully balanced audio circuit, SPDIF digital output for use with other DACs and a special Hybrid battery Power mode, to reduce battery drain from your smartphone.
Monochromatic OLED Display™
Shanling UA5 houses an OLED display on the front that provides easy access to multiple settings directly on the UA5, without any need for an app on the phone. It has a volume wheel for independent volume control that also assists with menu navigation.
High-Performance Dual DAC & Amplifier Chips
Shanling UA5 features a premium dual DAC chipset housing ESS ES9038Q2M DAC chips and two dedicated Ricore RE6863 Amplification chips. It offers quality high-resolution signal decoding with ultra-low distortion and high SNR ratings. Comprehensive Compatibility
Compatible with Android, Windows, Mac and iOS (a separate lightning cable is required for use with iOS). The UA5 also have UAC2.0 and UAC1.0 mode options, for use with a Nintendo Switch and other gaming systems or older devices.
3.5mm+4.4mm Headphone Output Ports
Whether you need a balanced 4.4mm connection or a single-ended 3.5mm headphone output port, Shanling has equipped the UA5 with both. Pair your headphones or earphones with your choice of termination option. UA5 has a rated output power rating of up to 137mW single-ended or 211mW Balanced, more than enough to power your headphones with ease.
Full USB Power and Hybrid Battery Power Mode
Possible to switch between full USB Power and Hybrid Battery Power mode. In Hybrid mode, DACs and amplifiers are using clean power from the built-in 220 mAh battery. When Hybrid Battery Power mode is enabled, certain sections of UA5 will still be running on USB power, like the USB Controller and FPGA, however the crucial parts of the DAC and amplifier will instead use cleaner power from the battery.
